YAMHILL COUNTY, OR — A 15-year-old girl died Saturday night after a two-vehicle wreck involving a DUI suspect on Oregon Highway 18 near McMinnville, reports KOIN.
The fatal collision occurred at milepost 39, east of Erratic Rock State Natural Site, shortly before midnight.
Oregon State Police said a 28-year-old Portland man was driving a Nissan Altima eastbound on the highway when he veered past the center line. Moments later, the Nissan collided with an oncoming Volkswagen Golf driven by a 17-year-old Sheridan boy.
The teenage girl, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen, suffered critical injuries and was transported by airlift to OHSU. She was later pronounced deceased.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were taken to Willamette Valley Medical Center.
According to police, the Portland man was taken into custody upon his release from the hospital and booked into Yamhill County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including “assault II,” and “driving under the influence of intoxicants.”
