PORTLAND, OR — Two women were cited after two separate wrong-way crashes early Saturday on Interstate 5 in south Portland, reports KATU2.
Authorities said the collisions occurred on the northbound lanes just an hour apart from each other.
In the first wreck at about 1:00 a.m., a 38-year-old woman was driving a grey 2021 Nissan Kicks southbound in the northbound lanes near Exit 298 to South Corbett Avenue when the Nissan hit another vehicle almost head-on. Though debris from the crash caused a third vehicle to spin out, no one was transported to a hospital.
About an hour later, A 23-year-old Salem woman was driving a red Prius against traffic in the northbound lanes when the Prius struck a white Ford Fusion. Officials said the driver of the Fusion was transported to an area hospital for severe but non-fatal injuries, which included a broken leg.
Following each incident, the wrong-way drivers received citations for “DUII, reckless driving, and reckless endangerment.” In addition, the Salem woman was cited for “assault in the third degree.”
