MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OR — A 31-year-old Hermiston resident died Saturday morning after a single-vehicle accident off Interstate 84 in Corbett, according to KGW8.

The fatal wreck occurred on the westbound interstate in the area of the Corbett View Point, near milepost 23, at about 7:15 a.m.

Oregon State Police said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle struck the guardrail. It then traveled down a 150-foot embankment before landing on its roof in the Columbia River.

After extricating the driver from the vehicle, emergency responders attempted to administer life-saving measures, but the patient ultimately succumbed to their injuries.

Authorities had the viewpoint blocked off for around five hours as they conducted an investigation.
