PORTLAND, OR — One person died Thursday evening after a pedestrian accident on West Burnside Road in Portland’s Northview District, reports KATU2.

Portland Police said the fatal incident occurred near the Northwest 22nd Avenue intersection. Officers responded to the scene after receiving calls at about 6:10 p.m.

The circumstances behind the event remain unclear, and it was unclear whether storm conditions was a factor, but investigators noted sleet had begun to fall at the time of the crash.

The pedestrian died from their injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.

Authorities said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

A section of West Burnside Road from 20th and 23rd avenues was shut down during the response.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team continues to handle the investigation.
