MARION COUNTY, OR — A 53-year-old woman was hit and fatally injured by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon while riding a bicycle in Salem, reports KATU2.

Salem Police said the incident occurred near the corner of Leslie Street Southeast and High Street Southeast, in the city’s Central Area neighborhood. Officers and first responders arrived on the scene after receiving a call at about 3:45 p.m.

According to officials, the woman was riding a bike southbound on High Street. At one point, the driver in the pickup entered the intersection from Leslie Street and traveled into the cyclist’s path, resulting in a crash.

The cyclist was rushed to Salem Health in critical condition. Officials confirmed she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver, who was not reported hurt, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. At this time, no charges or arrests have been reported.

Authorities had the intersection shut down for nearly four hours during the response and investigation.
