YAMHILL COUNTY, OR — Property damage was reported last Friday after a driver crashed into a 69-year-old box office at 99W Drive-in Theater in Newberg, reports KOIN 6 News.
Newberg Police responded to the scene at 3110 Portland Road on the evening of September 9.
An early investigation indicates a driver in a U-Haul truck tried to travel under the box office’s 8-foot-tall roof, causing the structure to life and spin off its base.
The owner of the theater and his employees discovered the damage during an intermission between back-to-back movie screenings, after the driver had fled the scene.
Investigators noted the building was left knocked to its side with no working lights. Its wiring and contents was found strewn on the ground.
The owner said a group of production workers had used a U-Haul truck to transport their equipment into the venue for an earlier performance. At this time, it remains unclear whether anyone has been apprehended.
