PORTLAND, OR — A tow truck operator was hospitalized Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 84 in northeast Portland, according to KATU2.

The incident took place near the Northeast 43rd Avenue exit and the Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard overpass. First responders were called to the scene at about 6:47 a.m.

According to Portland Police, a driver of a tow truck had just finished loading a vehicle onto the truck when he was hit by what is believed to be another tow truck. The suspect vehicle, described by witnesses as a Ford tow truck with a wheel lift mechanism at the rear, fled the scene.

Officers arrived to find the victim laying on the roadway in front of his own truck. He was transported to an area hospital with a broken arm, a broken leg, and other serious injuries.
