CLACKAMAS COUNTY, OR — A 75-year-old Sandy woman died Wednesday morning after being struck by a trailer on U.S. Highway 26 near east Sandy, reports KATU2.
The fatal accident took place on the westbound highway near East Sylvan Drive, shortly after 7:00 a.m.
According to Oregon State Police, the woman was on the westbound shoulder when she began crossing the highway, entering the path of an oncoming semi-truck driven by a 34-year-old Terrebonne resident.
Officials said the driver of the semi tried to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but she was hit by one of its two trailers.
The victim suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.
No injuries to the driver were reported.
