UMATILLA COUNTY, OR — Icy conditions and a series of semi-truck crashes Thursday morning closed a span of Interstate 84 from east Pendleton to east La Grande, reports KATU.
The closure impacted both eastbound and westbound lanes from milepost 216, six miles east of Pendleton, to milepost 265 in east La Grande. It was first reported by PDX Traffic Alerts at 6:44 a.m.
No details regarding the circumstances behind the accidents have been disclosed, but the highway was projected to remain shut down for multiple hours. Officials said Oregon State Highway 204 (Tollgate Highway) was also blocked off as a result.
Shortly after 9:00 a.m., an update from the Oregon Department of Transportation indicated the closure remains in place.
