PORTLAND, OR – A man was arrested after stealing a car with a child in Portland Friday morning.
According to KATU, a woman called the police after her running car was driven away with her 3-year-old son still inside. Authorities responded at the 4000 block of Northeast 16th Avenue.
The boy’s father was also on the scene and pursued the stolen vehicle in his own car. He crashed into the vehicle to stop the driver at Northeast 21st Avenue and Northeast Multnomah Street. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.
The man’s description was shared with others in the area who helped in the search. A community member pinned the suspect against a fence with their vehicle, and others helped restrain him until authorities arrived.
The suspect was injured and transported to an area hospital. The child and parents of the stolen vehicle were not injured.
The man will be charged once released from the hospital.
