PORTLAND, OR – An Idaho woman is facing criminal charges after she crashed head-on into a semi truck on I-5 early Monday morning, the Oregonian reports.

This updates our earlier reporting.

Sequoia Wheeler had been driving south in the northbound lanes of I-5 for about three miles when she slammed her Toyota Avalon into the truck near SW Terwilliger Boulevard at about 3 a.m. on January 17. Wheeler and a passenger became trapped in the vehicle, and had to be extricated by emergency responders. They were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The semi’s driver was not hurt, although the vehicle suffered significant damage.

Prior to her collision with the truck, Wheeler nearly struck a Nissan Altima, which swerved out of the way at the last minute and instead hitting a semi truck and then a barrier. Fortunately, no one was injured in this collision.

Wheeler has been cited for drunken and reckless driving.
