MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OR — One person died Tuesday morning after being struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 84 near east Troutdale, reports KGW8.
The fatal incident occurred about one mile west of Rooster Rock State Park in Corbett, shortly after 5:00 a.m.
According to authorities, deputies with the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office had initially responded to a non-injury collision in the eastbound lanes when they were alerted to the second wreck.
An early investigation indicates one person was standing outside a stopped SUV when they were hit by the semi and was fatally injured. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. MCSO officials have not confirmed whether that person was the driver or a passenger in the SUV.
Moments after the fatal crash, a second semi crashed into that scene. Neither semi driver was reported hurt, but an investigation was initiated.
The East County Vehicular Crimes Team believes that weather conditions and the icy roadway played a role in the series of crashes.
