PORTLAND, OR — A woman died Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in northeast Portland’s Wilkes Community Group neighborhood, reports KATU.
The fatal incident took place at Northeast 162nd Avenue and Northeast Fargo Street. Portland Police’s North Precinct officers responded to the scene at around 6:50 p.m.
It was unclear what events led up to the crash, but officers arrived to find the female pedestrian lying in the roadway. The driver was said to have attempted life-saving measures on the victim before first responders arrived, but the victim was later pronounced deceased.
A section of Northeast 162nd Avenue from Northeast Siskiyou Street to Northeast Sandy Boulevard was closed during the response and initial investigation.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team was handling the case.
