PORTLAND, OR — A 26-year-old woman died early last Saturday, August 27, after being struck by a vehicle while waiting at a bus stop in east Portland, according to KGW.
The fatal incident occurred near the corner of Southeast Stark Street and 133rd Avenue, in the city’s Hazelwood neighborhood. It was first reported at about 5:30 a.m.
An early investigation indicates two drivers were street-racing down Stark Street when one driver lost control of their vehicle and hit the victim at the bus stop.
Officials said the high-speed impact of the crash caused the bench at the stop to explode. The medical examiner said the victim was likely killed instantly.
An investigation remains ongoing. As of this writing, no arrests have been made and no pending charges have been reported.
