PORTLAND, OR — A man was hospitalized early Saturday after being struck by a car driven by a DUII suspect in southeast Portland, according to KPTV.
The incident occurred on Southeast 122nd Avenue, just south of Southeast Powell Boulevard, in the city’s Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood. Portland Police Bureau officers and Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to the scene shortly after 12:30 a.m.
Authorities have not disclosed details on the events leading up to the crash, but the male pedestrian was struck by a car driven by a 47-year-old man.
The victim was said to have suffered critical but non-life-threatening injuries, and was able to be interviewed by officers.
The driver, who stayed behind at the scene, was cited for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) and reckless driving.
An investigation was underway, but officials said “alcohol and visibility of the pedestrian” are believed to be the primary causes of the crash.
