LINN COUNTY, OR — A 63-year-old California resident died Wednesday afternoon after a fiery wreck involving two semi-trucks on Interstate 5 near Brownsville, reports KPTV.
The fatal collision occurred on the southbound interstate near milepost 219, south of Linn West Drive, in the Shedd area. It was first reported at around 2:10 p.m.
According to Oregon State Police, a Freightliner truck was stopped in the right lane during a traffic backup created by an earlier pileup crash. A second semi-truck was traveling southbound when it struck the stopped semi and burst into flames.
Officials said the driver of the striking semi was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was from Yuba City, California.
No one else was reported injured.
A section of I-5 was shut down for nearly 8 hours during the emergency response and investigation.
