PORTLAND, OR — One person has died after a high-speed crash late Saturday in north Portland that left two others critically hurt, reports KATU2.
Portland Police said the collision occurred in the 5900 block of North Marine Drive, near Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area. Officers responded to the scene just before midnight.
A preliminary investigation shows two cars were involved in a street race and traveling at extreme speeds when one driver lost control, causing both vehicles to crash.
Authorities said both drivers and one passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. All three were rushed to an area hospital, where one of the drivers was later pronounced deceased, as confirmed by police on Monday.
The fatal incident is one of many recently linked to illegal street racing in Portland, including a crash that killed a female pedestrian at a bus stop last year.
