MULTNOMAH COUNTY, OR — One person died Sunday morning after their car crashed off Southeast 282nd Avenue and caught fire in east Gresham, reports KOIN 6 News.
The fatal accident occurred off a span of the road (Southeast Troutdale Road) south of Southeast Division Drive. It was first reported at about 6:20 a.m.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle veered off the roadway and traveled down a steep ravine before erupting into flames.
Firefighters were called to the site after deputies noticed the vehicle down the ravine. Crews were able to extinguish the flames, but the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
A section of the road was shut down for nearly 8 hours as authorities responded.
An investigation into the cause of the wreck remains ongoing.
